How to Make Your Own Wedding Invitations

Spending thousands of dollars on paper can sometimes sound like the most unreasonable cost of getting married. Unfortunately, making your own wedding invitations can be one of the most time-consuming do-it-yourself tasks of planning a wedding. Still, you can save a lot of money and come out with invitations as good or better than you could have purchased from a professional.

First, the process of making your wedding invitations is likely to extend further than the invitations themselves. For instance, consider whether you will also need announcements, save the date cards, response cards, reception or rehearsal invitations, place cards, programs, and thank you notes. It’s unlikely that your wedding will require all of these, but you’ll probably want some of them. It’s easiest to take care of them all at one time.

Next, decide whether you want to make it a pure do-it-yourself project or a more modified do-it-yourself project. If you decide to do it entirely by yourself, get a friend, block out an entire weekend, and head to the nearest arts and crafts store. If you will be printing the invitations, make sure that your printer will work with any type of paper you plan to print on. If you’ll need to attach paper to paper, make sure you know your best options. Elmer’s glue is unlikely to look very professional. If you don’t already have an idea, look at samples on the Internet to get ideas for the wording.

If you decide to go with a more modified approach, there are a number of companies that make it easier to make your own invitations by offering templates and making beautiful stationary available. Many of these services are offered over the Internet and the invitations can still be printed off your own printer. Most modern laser and inkjet printers are capable of producing professional-quality invitations. If you’re just looking to save some money but still want the best-looking invitations possible, this may be the choice for you.

Remember, the invitations and other printed materials shouldn’t stress you out. They’re a fun formality that will be a good keepsake for you and your guests, but nothing more. If you’re making them yourself, focus on being proud to send them to your friends and family but don’t focus on making them “perfect.” Anything that gets all your loved ones in one place for the biggest day of your life will be perfect enough.

What To Do With Your Wedding Dress After The Wedding Is Over And Done With

Every bride takes time to find the PERFECT dress. We try on our dress numerous times leading up to the big day but then after the cash is spent, the champagne is done, the band has wrapped up and you and hubby have said “I do” and enjoyed your honeymoon…what are the plans for your wedding dress?

No worries - we’ve compiled our top 5 ideas of what brides do with their wedding dress after the wedding.First things first, no matter what your plans are, you have to have your dress cleaned first, so we didn’t included that in our top 5 list.

Have it preserved and keep it as a keepsake. If you have a daughter she may want to use your dress (as her “something old” or her “something borrowed”). There’s no guarantee that your daughter will want to wear your wedding dress, but it’s worth a shot.

Donate your wedding dress to a deserving charity. Some charities, auction or sell wedding dresses and donate the proceeds to a particular benefit (i.e. Cancer Society, etc.)

Use some of the fabric from your wedding dress and make something for your little one. For example, instead of purchasing a Christening gown for your baby, have one made using fabric from your wedding dress.

Turn your dress in to something you can wear again. If you have an A line wedding gown, why not turn it into a cute corset top and matching skirt. You can take it a step further and make a shawl or a matching draw string hand bag. The possibilities are endless.

Sell it! If you’re not emotionally attached to your dress, put it in a consignment shop or sell it online. If you do not have problems parting ways with it then why not free up some closet space!

We hope that these tips have given you some ideas to consider after the big day has come and gone. Feel free to post comments with any ideas that you may have as well!

Hand Painted Runner for Keisha and Kenya

Happy Trails Folks!

I just had to share these beautiful shots that we received from a wonderful couple.  Keisha and Kenya were are breeze to work with.  To make matters even better, they were gracious enough to send us these  shots to share.  Here’s what the bride had to say:

My aisle runner is one of the elements that MADE my outdoor ceremony. I'd seen other pictures of the aisle at my venue, but few had runners and even fewer had runners with a customized monogram. The workmanship was extremely professional and the owner was receptive to changes that I wanted made to the initial mock-up. I was also glad that we were given the option of a gray runner which looked absolutely gorgeous lined with yellow flower petals. After the ceremony we trimmed the aisle down to about 2-3 feet of material that included our monogram. I can't wait to find some way to display this piece of our wedding in our home.

Check them out on YouTube!  If you like it, be sure to tweet, FB and G+ us!

Thanks for the luv!

How to Decorate Your Aisle Runner

We get so many questions about suggestions on how to decorate the brides wedding aisle runner that we figured we would write up a post about it. Here are a few wedding aisle runner decoration ideas that people have used in their wedding themes.

Hand Painted Monograms
Of course our first suggestion would be to have your name and wedding date, along with the first letter of your last names hand painted on the wedding aisle runner. If you’d like to jazz up the monogram even further, you can opt to have embellishments and/or a ribbon border added to your monogram or other details such as roses of calla lilies.

Rose Wedding Theme
If your having a wedding with a rose theme, there is nothing more beautiful than walking down a rose petal covered aisle runner. If you opt to go with a hand painted monogram and the rose petals, make sure that the rose petals are positioned in a way that they don’t obstruct the view of the monogram and that your monogram colors and the rose petals compliment each other.

Beach Wedding Theme
There are two popular ways to spice up your aisle runner if you are having a beach themed wedding. One way is to use sea shells strategically placed along the aisle runner. Be sure that the color of the sea shells and the aisle runner color are not too similar. If they are, you may not be able to make out the sea shells in your photos. Also, make sure that the shells are not directly in the walkway of the bride. We would not want the bride tripping over a shell on her big day.
Another popular beach wedding aisle runner decoration is spreading colored sand along the aisle runner. The colors of the sand should match the wedding decor. For the DIY brides out there, stay tuned for a post in the future describing how you can make colored sand right at home for your wedding.

Autumn Wedding Theme
Finally, if you are having an autumn themed wedding, a great way to decorate your aisle runner is to place small pumpkins along the edges of the runner. This can serve two purposes. One purpose is for decoration and effect. The second is to hold the aisle runner down so that it will not slide or move.
