Wedding Reception – Our Top 10 highlighs of the party

I was reminiscing on our wedding last night. It seems like it was just yesterday, but in reality it’s been 5 years and 2 kids later…time sure flies. If you’re planning your special day, hopefully these tips will help you to make this a memorable event for all parties. These are the highlights of most receptions along with my tips to keep it moving. Remember that this schedule can be adjusted to your taste, but it should get you off to great start.

1. Entrance and introduction of the newlyweds — This introduction is generally given by the DJ and many times includes the introduction if the wedding party.
2. The First Dance — Be sure to select a song that you both enjoy
3. Father-Daughter Dance/ Mother-Son Dance – This one is self explanatory
4. Dinner – More than likely, you’ll both be starving from the events of the day. So take a bite and get some nourishment for the night ahead.
5. Toasts — Usually given by the best man, maid of honor, father of the bride, etc. If you have many toasts, consider doing some during the rehearsal dinner.
6. Cake Cutting
7. Visit With Guests — Make an effort to visit with every table and thank your friends and family for coming.
8. Bouquet and Garter Toss — Time to see who the next lucky couple to get married will be.
9. Dancing – take some time to enjoy this event and dance if you love dancing
10. Exit of the newlyweds — Be sure to let everyone know to stick around until the end of the reception for the send off.
Years after your wedding day, you’ll look back and be amazed at how fast it all went by. Be sure to take the time to really enjoy the special moments of the event.
